Accessibility By Access Keys

Enhancing accessibility, by access keys to the site. Following with what implemented in the previous websites, these access keys are part of the accessibility efforts of Adeeology. Please note, the crossed out item is yet to be implemented, though.

If you’re wondering what access keys are, they can likened to keyboard shortcuts. Using the accesskey HTML attribute allows web developers to assign these keyboard shortcuts to web elements. This allows for a more efficient use of an application.

This is possible in web browsers too. However, different browsers have different ways of implenting access keys. In Firefox it’s ALT+SHIFT+key. For example, the combo ALT+SHIFT+1 would take you to the home page. Note though, firing the access keys on a PC or a MAC may differ.

For Internet Explorer 10 or higher: Use Alt + [accesskey] (Windows/Linux), or Control + [Accesskey] (Mac).
For Firefox: Use Alt + Shift + [accesskey] (Windows/Linux) or Control + [Accesskey] (Mac).
For Chrome: Use Alt + [accesskey] (Windows/Linux), or Control + Option + [Accesskey] (Mac).
For Safari: Use Alt + [accesskey] (Windows/Linux), or Control + Option + [Accesskey] (Mac).

Reinforcing web accessibility by access keys is a minor feat at best, but Adee is seriously looking at more ways to improve accessibility in his website. You may read Adeeology’s Acessibility Statement here, and learn about the other implemented features on Adeeology.
