Struck with Covid-19

After being flagged many times as a close contact, I’m now Covid-19 positive. I have been feeling under the weather lately, but I’ve attributed it to spring cleaning, done on Wednesday and Thursday, on Merdeka’s Day break.

Confirmed Covid-19 proclamation of category 2a.

It started with a sore throat, an itch which just won’t go away. I blamed this on the room I had to clear to welcome a new tenant. It was a smoker’s room, and cigarettes butts and ash were everywhere. Of course my ultra sensitive nose acted up, protesting the dust, but it was par for the course. I’d get the sniffles for a few days, and I’ll be OK, except it went downhill on Saturday.

The morning started typically enough, had my roti canai for breakfast, with some itchiness in my throat. Nose was runny in the morning but dried up soon enough. The itchiness in my throat however, got worse, and I could not go for long without drinking. My throat was parched. I felt my temperature rising, and a temperature check at 6pm had me at 37.3°C, and I already feel a fever coming up. I activated the ‘demam protocol’ soon enough.

Topped up my paracetamol, got a cough syrup, just in case (phlegm was building up) and bought cough drops too, cause the throat is mighty itchy. I went to my favourite tomyam place for a dose of ‘tomyam pedas giler’ to help loosen the phlegm and clear my partially blocked nose. Went home and clamped on the thermometer for another check.Going from 37.3°C to 38.1°C in a matter of hours meant going into full convalescing mode. At the back of my mind, I thought to test myself for Covid-19, but a saliva test kit is more accurate when done after waking up, with no drinks or food to contaminate the results, so I deferred it till later. Tested after I woke up, and it was negative, so I set my mind on focussing to beat my fever.

My temperature went as high as 38.5°C. I have no difficulty breathing, but my chest wheezes slightly. The coughs made their presence felt, but the little phelgm I had, were mostly clear. Other than that, I had fleeting headaches, but it was what I would normally get in my normal bouts with fever. Sunday came and went, as I kept to my 4-6 hours of paracetamol, night time polaramine (to help me sleep) and a wet towel for the forehead. I went out for my meals and more cough drops, but my temperature kept fluctuating between 37-38°C.

Dreaded two line

Later in the night, early Monday morning, my fever finally broke, temperatures were holding steady under 38°C. I have an appointment on Monday morning, and thought to cancel it if I didn’t get better. Being responsible, I took another test, and it didn’t take long for the dreaded lines to appear. I resigned to my fate, and called off my appointment, and told my sister. Reported in to MySejahtera and found a slight UI irregularity in one of the forms, specifically the one asking if you have any comorbidities.

I’ve beaten the fever, but my throat is parched. Headachy, but not debiliating. Thankfully, I have no problem breathing, nor sleeping. Now to survive the next five days (actually seven) of quarantine. Still wondering where I could have gotten it from. I did visit my sister, but they had Covid-19 months ago, the other possible source is from ‘solat Jumaat’, but if it were the latter, my infection sure went downhill real fast (within a day) but my fever broke fast too. Oh well, can’t go around now saying I’ve never gotten the Covid-19.
